We offer a range of courses designed to help individuals manage common mental health issues. The courses are friendly and interactive and can also be an opportunity for people to meet others with similar conditions.

Carers Wellbeing Workshop

The Carers Wellbeing Workshop is a six week programme that will explore the experience of being a carer, and allow carers from the Colchester and Tendring area to share their experiences of this often difficult and yet valuable role. Guest speakers will be invited to provide you with information about external services and organisations that may be helpful.

The course is attended by 8-10 people in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, and each session lasts for two hours with a break in the middle.

Dealing with Worry

Dealing with Worry is a four week cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) workshop, specifically designed to tackle excessive worry. Dealing with Worry will help you learn to identify and change the unhelpful thoughts and behaviours that keep the worry going. You will also learn how to identify the different types of worry, learn how to postpone worry and how to problems solve more effectively.

The workshop is attended by a maximum of 18 people in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, and each session lasts for two hours with a break in the middle.

Doing More, Feeling Better

Doing More, Feeling Better is a four week cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) workshop specifically designed to tackle the withdrawal caused by low mood. Doing More, Feeling Better focuses on re-establishing daily routines, increasing pleasurable activities and addressing important necessary issues. The workshop is designed to help you recognise any unhelpful patterns in your behaviour, and help you to make subtle changes to your lifestyle in order to lift the depression.

The workshop is attended by a maximum of 18 people in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, and each session lasts for two hours with a break in the middle.

Living Well in Older Adulthood

Living Well in Older Adulthood is a six week educational course that focuses on improving wellbeing in people aged over 65 years. The course covers a range of skills proven to help reduce the symptoms of low mood, anxiety, stress and worry.

The course is attended by 8-10 people in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, and each session lasts for two hours with a break in the middle.

Perinatal Open Arms Group

Perinatal Open Arms Group is a ten week cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) course that focuses on exploring impact and experience of becoming a parent, and is aimed at treating associated anxiety, depression and adjustment problems.

Each session will address a different topic and will be tailored to the group’s needs. Clients will be strongly encouraged to use the tools and learning from the group during the week and be active in their own recovery.

Wellbeing and Diabetes

Whether you have been recently diagnosed with diabetes, or have been living with this health condition for a long time, managing diabetes can be tough. Some people report feeling overwhelmed having to manage their medication and attend medical appointments. Others report finding it difficult to make some of the lifestyle changes necessary to cope with diabetes.

It is very common to feel worried, anxious or low in mood at times.  However, having diabetes does not mean you should not be able to live a full and enjoyable life.  Wellbeing and Diabetes is a six week course, with a relaxed and informal atmosphere, attended by approximately 8-10 people.  Each sessions lasts for two hours and there is a break in the middle. Health in Mind North East Essex IAPT, is here to help you manage your diabetes and improve your overall wellbeing.

Wellbeing and Long Term Conditions

Are you living with a long term physical health condition (LTC)?  Examples of LTCs include asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart failure, arthritis and chronic pain.  Having a LTC can be frustrating or worrying at times.  It is very common for health conditions to affect how people feel and for mood to affect health conditions. This can lead to feeling stressed, low, anxious or worried. Health in Mind North East Essex IAPT, is here to help you ‘live well’ with your health condition and improve wellbeing through a range of courses (including Living Well with a LTC courses), one to one sessions or online therapy.

Living Well with a LTC is a six week course, with a relaxed and informal atmosphere, attended by approximately 8-10 people.  Each sessions lasts for two hours and there is a break in the middle.

Wellbeing and Exercise

Health in Mind North East Essex IAPT is partnering with Leisure World Colchester to launch the ‘Healthy Body Healthy Mind’ programme, for adults living with mild to moderate stress, anxiety and/or low mood.  This free 4-session course aims to develop your knowledge of psychological aspects of wellbeing and activity, together with a gentle introduction to exercise. Sessions are based at Leisure World Colchester attended by approximately 8 people. Each sessions lasts for two hours and there is a break in the middle. Health in Mind North East Essex IAPT, is here to help you become more active and improve your overall wellbeing.

Stress Management Workshop

The stress management workshop is a one off workshop suitable for businesses and organisations. Participants do not have to be in treatment with Health in Mind to receive the workshop.

The workshop consists of the following topics:

  • What is stress?

  • Helpful stress vs unhelpful stress

  • Introduction to the CBT model

  • How stress affects us in relation to the CBT model

  • Managing stress using CBT strategies

  • Relaxation ideas
