Referral

We understand that seeking help can be a difficult process, so we aim to make accessing our support as easy as possible and there are a number of ways for you to do this.

You must be registered, or be intending to register, with a GP in the area to access Health in Mind, although we won’t necessarily contact them if you do not want us to.

What will happen when I get referred to Health in Mind?

If you have spoken to your GP or other health professional about your current difficulties they may offer to make a referral to on us on your behalf. Our first step will be to review the information provided. We will then contact you to book an appointment, gather more information or in some circumstances offer advice on services most suited to your needs.

What will happen when you receive my referral?

All referrals received are processed Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm.

After we have reviewed the information on your referral, one of our administrators will contact you to arrange an initial assessment this will be a telephone or face-to-face appointment lasting approximately 45 minutes. You will be invited to tell us more about your current problem and help us to identify the most appropriate support option for your needs.

We will do our best to ensure we offer you an appointment that suits your circumstances and supports your individual preferences, including considering accessible locations and any translator requirements.

What will happen if I complete the wrong referral form?

North Essex IAPT provide services in three areas across Essex; west, mid and north east. In order to access your local IAPT service you must be registered with a GP surgery that resides within one of these three geographical areas. If you complete the wrong self-referral form we will ensure your referral reaches the correct North Essex IAPT team by securely forwarding your details within our service. If your referral falls out of the area you will be contacted and made aware of the correct service.
